Andrea becomes first named storm of ’07

NEW ORLEANS (May 8, 2007) – With three weeks until the official start of hurricane season, Subtropical Storm Andrea became the first named storm of the year, with sustained winds of up 45 mph, and moving slowly southwest. A Florida State University model has the storm potentially crossing Florida and entering the Gulf over the weekend.

Slow moving Andrea remains just offshore of the Southeastern U.S. A tropical storm watch remains in effect along the southeast coast of the united states from Altamaha sound Georgia southward to Flagler Beach Florida. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area…generally within the next 36 hours.
